Tacofino's newest concept - a coal-fired Mexican Style grill, is looking for an experienced, forward-thinking Chef who is passionate about culinary art. The right person for this position is a natural leader who keeps their finger on the pulse of culinary trends. You will be responsible for delegating tasks, preparing awesome food for our guests, interviewing and providing ongoing learning opportunities to your team, keeping on top of kitchen inventory management, and partnering with the Sous Chef to come up with new and delicious dishes to add to our growing menu.

About Tacofino: Tacofino began as a food truck in the back of a surf shop in beautiful Tofino, British Columbia. We balanced surfing with creating world inspired food from the best possible ingredients and wrapping them in delicious fresh tortillas. We have since grown into four restaurants and three food trucks across the Lower Mainland and Victoria.

You will be:
*Overseeing and coordinating the daily operations of the kitchen staff
*Ensuring consistent standards of food quality and customer satisfaction
*Working with the Executive Chef to learn new recipes, ensuring they are to the specifications as outlined in the company’s recipe guide
*Monitoring and maintaining food and labour targets as outlined by the General Manager and the Executive Chef
*Ensuring all staff are in compliance to appropriate safe food-handling procedures as per the Vancouver Coastal Health Guidelines
*Providing additional support to your team when required, such as jumping on a station and supporting the line to expedite lunch and/or dinner services
*Interviewing and hiring for all positions within your team
*Providing staff orientations, ongoing training and development opportunities, and performance reviews for your team
*Holding and attending regular meetings with the restaurant leadership team, Back of House Operations Manager, and Executive Regional Chef
*Providing disciplinary action and performance management when warranted
*Creating schedules, tracking and maintaining clear records of vacation days, sick days and lieu days
*Maintaining kitchen systems and timelines for ordering, food production, station pars, equipment maintenance and opening/closing duties of all back of house staff
*Submitting daily ordering from both suppliers, internal production kitchen, and entering set invoices into inventory software
*Performing and submitting bi-weekly inventories
*Ensuring compliance with health & safety, HACCP, and Food Safe
*Maintaining accurate and up-to-date recipes and records
*Other duties as required
To be qualified for this role, you will have:
*A minimum of 5 years of culinary experience in a fast-paced, high volume & professional kitchen environment
*Experience with inventory counts and ordering
*Experience with an inventory management system, preferably Optimum Control
*A minimum of 2 years in a leadership role
*Food Safe Certification Level 2 considered an asset. If you don't have it we will get it for you
*Culinary Arts or Red Seal Certification considered an asset
*Ability to work evenings and weekends according to the needs of the business
